Brief Intro

During spring 2019, I partnered with Expedia to conduct usability testing on their new lodging shopping experience, where I developed study protocol, communicated recruiting process, moderated usability testing, updated deliverables and presented the final report to 42 attendees. In a team of four graduate students, I was responsible for communicating between our groups and Expedia’s stakeholders, and worked closely with researchers, designers, tech managers, and engineers. It was an incredible opportunity to work with professionals from the industry in 3 months, and our final deliverables have had a real impact on the iteration of the new lodging website.

Unfortunately, due to NDA I can’t share specific details about my work. If you would like to learn more about my experience, feel free to contact me!

Reflection

Be flexible and open

Our project has been switched and research scope has changed during study. We actively steered our wheels to adjust the new project and developed a completely new study protocol during the weekend. It is important to be flexible and open to stakeholders’ needs, and adjust the study plan accordingly to deliver a timely report.

Be proactive

Don’t be afraid to ask for additional resources and references when you are in an ambiguity situation. Gaining as much information can help you narrow down the scope and understand what is expected from stakeholders.
